报告题目:Catalyst application in hydrogen production from reforming/gasification of renewables

报告人: Chunfei Wu, Energy Research Institute, University of Leeds

Abstract:

Hydrogen production from biomass gasification has obtained worldwide interests due to hydrogen is a clean energy carrier, and biomass is a reliable, renewable, clean, and carbon-neutral energy resource. One of the key challenges is to obtain suitable catalysts in the process of biomass gasification in relation to the improvement of efficiency of hydrogen production and biomass conversion. Nickel-based catalysts have been widely used for hydrogen production from catalytic steam reforming of bio-oil compounds, due to its high catalytic activity and relatively low cost. However, the catalysts suffer coke deposition and sintering problems compared with noble metal catalysts. Therefore, develop cost-effective Ni-based catalysts with high efficiency of hydrogen production and catalytic stability in terms of sintering and coke deposition is crucial. In this presentation, I will report a Ni/MCM-41 catalyst with controlled metal crystal size and its application for hydrogen production from biomass gasification. Another novel route to solve catalyst deactivation will also be discussed. This is to guide the deactivation of catalyst into a sustainable route by producing high-value carbon nanotubes, while the deactivation of catalyst is inevitable.

报告人简历:

Dr. Chunfei Wu is a Research Fellow in the Energy Research Institute at the University of Leeds, supported by the School Core Fund. He has worked in the areas of converting renewable and waste resources to energy, fuel and chemicals through catalytic thermo-chemical routes for about 9 years. He is a visiting professor of the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where he gave 8 lectures to students. He obtained his MSc degree at Nankai University in 2004, and completed his PhD degree in Environmental and Energy Engineering at the University of Leeds from 2007 to 2010. He is a principal investigator of White Rose Collaboration Fund (£10,500, 2013-2014), Royal Society International Exchange Scheme (£6,000, 2011-2012) and Worldwide Universities Network (£1,456, 2011). He is also involved in several EPSRC projects (UK)about thermo-chemical treatment of waste and renewables and EU FP7 projects e.g. waste management. He has published 35 peer reviewed publications with around 280 citations with an ‘h factor’ of 12 in the areas of catalytic thermo-chemical conversion of biomass and wastes. He is also a member of American Chemical Society and Royal Society Chemistry.
